This morning I went up part of the Sentier Cathare (the Cathar Way) above Ginoles village. Ginoles is only a few km from Quillan but I drove that part to save time. Gorgeous summer morning: already quite hot in the sun when I was out between 9am and 10.30am. The Quillan area has many beautiful features but, for me, the cliffs above Ginoles are the most beautiful of them all. I would never get tired of that view.

The closest village to Quillan is the charmingly- named Ginoles. It was once a separate village – and still is in theory – but with the outward sprawl of Quillan over the years, the housing is almost continuous between town and village.
We have been enjoying fresh fruit and veges, farm cheese and eggs from the market but we can also hunt and gather our own food from the local environment. Here is a hat-full of wild cherries, from neighbouring Ginoles. Yum. Actually, this lot were picked by our neighbour and kindly passed on to us, but the boys enjoyed scaling the trees to gather some of their own on a walk at the weekend. That’s the life.
